SURRY Hills Harpoon Harry has finally completed a major multi-million dollar renovation with the launch of its boutique hotel.

Boasting 20 contemporary rooms influenced by Cuba’s Old Havana, Hotel Harry represents the end of a major 18 months renovation for marketing manager Brett Robinson.

Mr Robinson said the new hotel offered guests a slice of Old Havana in heart of the CBD.

They purchased the venue about three years ago and spent nearly two years working on plans and lodging development applications to work out exactly what they wanted to do, he said.

“It’s been a long road but we have finally been able to give birth to our completed Hotel Harry,” Mr Robinson said.

“We have worked our bar and food areas and on top of that we have our accommodation. There have always been hotel rooms here but they were not that fancy but we have now joined the Choice Hotels group so we are officially a four-star boutique hotel.

“Our focus was to create what we like to think of as a bit of a Cuban mansion in the heart of the city with a broad Latin feel. We have some great Cuban focused decorations and art throughout the hotel.”

The marketing manager said the new boutique hotel would accentuate the venue’s previous renovations of the bar and dining area.

“The renovations were completed earlier this month and now the entire building looks amazing,” he said.

“We have the hotel reception open 24-hours a day so people can come into the city, check in, do downstairs for drinks and dinner and then head back up to their rooms. So far we are finding that the venue is quite social on the weekends and people seem to love what we have done with the space.

“As part of the $5 million renovation we have also maintained the heritage facades to ensure the design of the building was not affected.

“In the kitchen we have the second biggest wood-fire smoker in the southern hemisphere and our menu has a very strong focus on smoked meat and seafood with our hero being beef.”
