Drake & Scull International on Monday announced that its engineering unit has secured a AED224 million ($60.9 million) contract to deliver mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works for a hotel complex and the expansion of a prominent retail mall in Dubai.
DSI said in a statement that it has commenced work on the site and will oversee the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of complete MEP works with a scheduled handover by 2018.
The company said the project involves the development of an extension to a prominent retail destination in Dubai whose expanded premises will include a new high rise hotel tower and a low-rise podium that includes a hypermarket, cinemas, and additional retail space, all within a total built up area of 192,000 sq m.
Drake & Scull did not name the mall or hotel in the statement.
Ahmad Al Naser, managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering, said: “The hotel complex and mall expansion project award is the latest major retail development contract which sustains the momentum of project wins DSI has demonstrated by securing prominent projects across the GCC region this year.
“The hotel complex and mall expansion is a welcome addition to iconic projects we are delivering in the UAE which includes the Habtoor City, the Jewel of the Creek and the Louvre Museum to name a few.”
He said Drake & Scull has registered a series of prominent project award wins across the MENA region in 2015, which include the AED180 million Al Reef Tower, the AED198 million Jewel of the Creek, a AED334 million hotel complex, a AED290 million mixed use development, a series of projects in Oman worth AED350 million, an education institution in Kuwait for AED218 million, a residential development in Abu Dhabi and a retail development in Kuwait.
